Best value lens

I have been shooting with this lens for a couple weeks now and love it. It's super-sharp, even at f2.8, and feels great. The colour and contrast is awesome too. If you're looking at the AF-S 70-200 VR, it's a waste of money. Sure, it's got 5 ED glass elements instead of 3 but that might add to ghosting and vignetting. For a thousand bucks less, I can do without the VR. Heck, this lens opens to f2.8, how much do you really need VR?
In my humble opinion, this lens is the best bang for your buck on the market.
Also, it's got a macro function but you still have to be about six feet away to be able to focus so I still use my 28-70 for those shots.
All in all, if you're contemplating the purchase of this lens, I would highly recommend it. I've been using it mostly to shoot deer in the wild. Even in tricky forest lighting, it handles amazingly.
Also a sweet lens for sports, portraits and tonnes of other applications.
This lens is a bit heavy but that's because it's built like a tank.
I like the weight because I can hold it steadier anyways.
Besides, the 70-200mm VR weighs even more and is an inch longer.
If you're a complete weakling, you may not want this lens, but otherwise, it is the best buy in the camera world.

I bought this lens to use at the rink for Hockey and Figure Skating. The results are really impressive. Hand holding this baby is a bit hit and miss, you really need a monopod. The auto focus is fast and the images are sharp.
If you want to get professional results this lens is a must have. It's a fast lens and perfect for low light situations where you can't use flash.
Excellent lens, great value, 5 stars.
Oh yeh, and great service from Vistek.

I picked this up prior to a trip to Jasper. I had used the 70-200mm VR a few months before, and although that was an excellent lens, I couldn't really justify the $700 price bump for VR. I went with a Manfrotto monopod instead.
The sharpness is fantasic, the bokeh is silky smooth and I was surprised at how fast he AF was. I can probably put the money I saved towards another lens. Very satisfied with both the product and the service at Vistek.
