70 -200mm f4 L is great!

I'v had my eye on this lens for over a year, and I bought it a few weeks ago when I realized that Canon lens prices seem to be trending upward since the tsunami in Japan.
I'm am very happy with the lens. Its acceptably sharp, as long as you recognize the inherent limitations with an f4. If you are shooting in good light, it's fast enough to freeze a bird in flight, but if you are shooting weddings indoors, you'd be better off saving up for the f2.8L. The newer IS II version of the f4L is a $1000 more expensive, but I usually shoot with the stabilization off on my lenses that have that feature so I didn't see the point of putting out that kind of cash. I use it for wildlife photography, scenic panorama stitching, food, portraits, and sporting events, and so far it has performed admirably, and is quickly becoming the lens I use the most. It works well with flash in those places where you can use one. I haven't tried it with video yet, but I will be getting to that in a few days, and will post some clips on youtube.
All in all a great choice for the budget conscious professional, or serious amateur...
