Excellent...get one now!!!

This is considered to be THE SHARPEST LENS that Nikon ever made. Excellent build, precise and fast focusing...This is a multi-coated version of the old Nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens (no D). Moreover, it offers D, that is, it relays the distance info to the camera body, and thus makes 3D metering and 3D flash metering possible (in the newer bodies, like F65, F75, F80, F100 and F5).
If you are new to photography, by all means get one of these now! Forget about those poor zoom lenses that come with the camera body.
Great Lens for low price

This lens produces the top quality images at a low price. So it is made in china and in plastic, who cares. Thats why you pay this price.
It's light and pretty charp and contrasty at every apature.
Worth spending under $200

This is a great sharp lense! Even at F1.8 this lense is still sharp! Not to mention the amazing price of such a highly rated lense! You won't regret adding one to your bag.

I bought this lens to accompany my Nikon F80. I must say that it was a choice that I do not regret. Excellent lens. Sharp at ALL apertures. GREAT PRICE! What else can I say? I love this lens.
Be sure to buy one to add to your lens collection. Amateur or seasoned professional - this lens is a great addition to any collection.
Super sharp!

Bought this lens on a whim for it's excellent DOF capabilities, and was pleasantly surprised by its sharpness. This is my 3rd lens in my young lens buying 'career' and it is my favorite by far. Obviously not as versatile as my 18-70 zoom lens, but it's quickness and sharpness make it hard to take off my D80! Definately recommend. And for the price, you won't have any buyer's remorse!
Great Value

Good for 35mm and FX as a normal lens, or on DX body can be a portrait lens. It is fast, small and lightweight- easy to throw in your bag for any low light needs. It is fairly sharp, especially by 2.8. But the other reviewer saying it's the sharpest lens Nikon ever made is just rubbish. It gets 5 stars for value. But price aside, just assessing it as a lens, loses a star due to plasticky build quality. Optically it's fine.
