Lens on a 20D Camera
by MJ from Ontario
Rating:
I found this lens to be a great walk around lens. With the IS it provides lower light hand holdable shots otherwise not possible. Great overall lens for the 20d.
Cons: A little vignetting at extreme f4 @ 17mm.

Just an amazing lens.
Best upgrade for the XTi even if...

High barrel distortion from 17-40mm, chromatic aberations, adequate resolution, could be better build for the price but IS and the range saves it!
Used on 20d, soon to be on a 40d

I was hoping for less barrel distortion and chromatic abberation considering the brand and price. To be fair, compared to the competition, it's much better and it has IS.
Not a lens for Professionals but a great upgrade from the 18-55mm for beginners.

In the beginning of my photography, this was a great lens. An excellent upgrade from the 18-55 kit lens. It gave me a great range and the IS awesome. But as my photography skills developed into the amateur/professional range, I began to expect more from my equipment and this lens no longer delivered. The lens vignetting is unacceptable, and the build quality is equally poor. Due to the external telescoping of the lens which happens when zooming along with poor weather sealing, it easily sucks in dust and the entire front element (on the inside) of my lens is now covered in dust which cannot be fixed. Often times (not all the time) when I am shooting into direct sunlight there are spots all over the image. Will this matter to a beginner who is starting to get serious about photography? no. But for amateur/professionals I would recommend the 24-105 f/4L instead.
