Wow describes the pictures that this lens creates. It has the best creamy smooth bokeh that has to be seen to believe. One of Canon's "Holy Trinity" (along with 35L, 135L), the 85L is simply one of the best and sharpest portrait lenses on the market. It's not cheap, it's heavy and the focusing is not very fast - but if you can afford it and you aren't taking sports shots with it, you will be rewarded with terrific pictures. You also have to be careful about depth of field because when this lens is wide open, you only have an inch or so of DOF!
