Can't be beat for the price

This lens tests as well as it's Canon equivalent, but it's 1/3 the price. It takes beautiful pictures, and has a wonderful bokeh. The only reason to get the Canon lens is if you really need Image Stabilization, or an extra 5mm at the long end. An excellent upgrade from the 18-55mm kit lens.
The only drawback is that the autofocus is on the outside, and gets angry if your finger's on it when it's trying to focus. Not a problem once you get used to it. 4.5/5

This is a great lens which is worth much more than it's price. I have used it extensively for portraiture and social event photography. It's bloody sharp at f3.5 and smaller and is quite sharp-wide open. It focuses well in low light and is very compact. All in all, a great lens....I just wish it had more range...like 17-70mm f2.8 or something. Oh, and the Tamron ads aren't lying when they comment on the smooth out of focus backgrounds...it offers great bokeh.
Worth every penny

I bought this lens in Edmonton from the new Vistek store in August this year. I thought that I would try it out first. The bench test reports are true to their words. This is an excellent lens and it only cost a fraction of the Canon brand. I realise the Canon lens has IS. For my photography I handhold and use my tripod equally. I am very happy with this lens. Landscape images are crisp and colourful. The wide aperture allows my portraits to stand out of the background. Strongly recommended.
