Nice compromise

If you can't justify the extra $1000 (and the extra kg) for the F2.8 version, but, want a razor sharp pro level lens, this is a great choice.
Internal focus and internal zoom means everything stays put and dust stays out longer.
IS Makes this lens much more useful

The addition of IS adds a lot of value to the 70-200 f/4 non-IS version. IS makes a big difference on a telephoto, as I can shoot down to 1/60s - fast enough to stop subject blur, but slow enough to work in lots of evening or indoor applications.
Lens is great - sharp, smallish in size for this quality lens, well built, etc. Great range for people shots.
No reason not to buy this lens

Pros: Sharp beyond belief, no CAs, incredible contrast, oh, and IS.
Cons: Price seems like a con but when you see the images it produces,
all you'll do is smile and forget about the price. It's worth it.
Simply excellent

Quite simply an excellent lens. As sharp as primes in its telephoto range, great contrast and colour, and state of the art IS.
What it gives up in maximum aperture to the f2.8 version can be forgiven considering it's half the weight and 2/3 the cost.
