Initially I got this lens for my D200 to try to get a wider angle than I was able to achieve with the 18-200 mm lens I have. Of course I didn't gain much of an additional angle because of that small sensor in the D200 but I benefited none the less. I found my group shots were a lot sharper than before. I found I could operate in lousy light and still have reasonable exposures. And I found that even when I did panoramas they came out crisp and sharp. It's truly an amazing lens.
Now I'm using it on my D3 and because of the 35mm sensor, I find myself with incredible wide angles. It's ergonomic too, zooming is really easy. And it's not as heavy as it could have been. Overall of course it's more effective on a 35 mm sensor for which I'd recommend it, but even so, it was dramatic what I could accompilsh with this lens on my D200.
