I bought this lens initially for my D200 but it was in anticipation of acquiring a D3 which I now own. On the D200 it was amazing at the telephoto end but of course a disappointment on the wide angle side. On my D3 it's a real dream.
It's relatively light for a fast lens. It focuses almost instantly and silently. Zoom is smooth and predictable. It's the primary lens on my D3.
I supplemented it with the 14 - 24 mm and the 70 - 200 mm as well as a 105 macro but these were for specific issues. Most of my pictures are taken with his lens when I'm using my D3.
