Works well in the right situations

I received the Lightsphere II Cloud as a gift, for taking photos indoors of kids. I was looking for something that would let me bounch the flash, but also send some light forward. In this application, it works well to fill in the eye shadows that are common with a single bounced flash.

I have found the results to depend highly on the the subject to camera distance and the ambient light. If the subject is too far away, the light thrown forward doesn't help enough, and it results in pretty much the same photo as you would get with just bounced flash. Overall, it has improved the look of informal portraits I've taken indoors. Generally, I seem to need to add some positive exposure compensation when used with a Canon 20D/580EX. Not as handy to carry as something like the Omni-bounce, but works quite a bit better. I don't find I use the dome very often, but the instructional CD says to use it for outdoor fill - which I won't do much of until winter is over.
