'Colour Calibration'... Too long, in my world, a thing I heard about but never used. Now, functioning with a colour calibration device, I could never go back. It is my opinion now that colour calibration devices, and the Huey Pro is an excellent one, are an absolute a need.
In this new calbrated world I'm in, printed pages are exactly as I've been making them. WYSIWYG ('What You See is What You Get') now exists. I've got an excellent computer and monitor and printer but never before have the printer outputs been exactly the same as what I've worked on in the 'darkroom'. This is a huge improvement!
Set up and software install with this Huey Pro is super easy and takes less than five minutes to do. Up and running, you're taken through the calibration process which is also easy to do. Other than pressing the occasional 'okay, proceed now' buttons, the Huey Pro handles the process entirely. It takes very little time to do and, once done, you're simply asked if you want to save this profile or not. Your monitor is now calibrated.
Once done, you have the option of leaving the Huey Pro connected. You put it into the little supplied cradle, then place it just in front of your monitor facing you. It's quite small and takes up very little space. Leaving it connected, it can run it's 'Adjust for Room Lighting' function. We have the option of setting this to run as little as once every four hours or as often as every 10 seconds. I've got mine set to run every hour which seems to work well for my purposes. This part of the Huey Pro is really quite vital. As the day's light changes, assuming your office has windows, and as our room's lighting changes, so to must our monitors.
The simple review: If you print colour documents, you must buy one of these. Period. No questions to be asked. Just go and get one! Of course, there are other m'onitor colour calibration devices out there, none of which have I tried, which I imagine all work well but, on a 'cost-to-quality and ability assessment, this Huey Pro scores very highly. Part of me thought I should buy a more expensive one but, I also felt assured this Huey Pro, having, as it does, the colour pedigree of Huey behind it, would be an excellent choice. So far, it has not disappointed me in any way whatsoever.
Finally, if you use your computer as your 'darkroom', buy a colour calibration device as soon as you possibly can. Period.
Do you want your computer to show true colours? Do you get frustrated when printing because the only way to get true WYSWYG outputs is through printing test sheets, tweaking them, printing more test sheets, tweaking them until, finally, your photo print looks just like you want it to?
With my system and its Huey Pro, I feel like I'm in a whole new world. Printing is so, so much easier to do now. And the monitor, now displaying true reds, true greens, etc, besides being far more beautiful, is much easier on my eyes. I get far less 'long day' eye strain.
All in all, the Huey Pro's a five star unit!
