The Optio W80 features 12.1 megapixel resolution and a 28mm wide-angle optical 5X zoom lens in a slim, compact body. In addition to its outstanding waterproof, dustproof and coldproof capabilities, which allow for up to two hours of continuous underwater photography at a depth down to 5m, the Optio W80 offers outstanding shockproof performance to withstand a fall from a height of 1m. The Optio W80 can be used underwater continuously for up to 2 hours at a depth of up to five meters. It has been rated to the JIS Class 8 Waterproofing standard as well as the JIS Class 6 Dustproof standard against sand and dust. It has exceptional coldproof performance for reliable operation at temperatures as low as –10°C. Photographers will feel confident using the Optio W80 in almost any outdoor situation from skiing, marine sports and fishing to outdoor family activities.
The new design of the Optio W80 protects it against drops of one meter*, ensuring that the camera is protected from use in harsh shooting conditions as well as occasional “spills” on dry land.
Measured under PENTAX-original testing standards (from a height of one meter, onto a surface of 5cm-thick plywood), conforming to MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock.
Combining approximately 12.1 effective megapixels with the PENTAX-developed imaging engine and high-performance PENTAX zoom lens, the Optio W80 delivers brilliant, high-quality images with well-defined details.
The 5X optical zoom lens, covering an angle of view equivalent to approximately 28 to 140 mm in 35 mm format, makes it ideal for shooting a broad spectrum of subjects, from expansive landscapes, architecture, and group photos in confined spaces as well as close-up telephoto shots of subjects.
The Optio W80 captures movie clips at 16:9 high-definition TV proportions (1280 x 720 pixels) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. It also comes equipped with advanced, user-friendly features designed to facilitate movie recording. Movie SR (Shake Reduction) mode automatically compensates camera shake during movie shooting while Underwater Movie mode automatically optimizes all camera settings for underwater movie shooting.
Triple anti-shake protection to prevent different types of camera shake
- Pixel Track Shake Reduction mode reduces camera shake and blurring of the subject when photographing still images, as well as ensuring sharp images even in challenging lighting conditions. Pixel Track SR even produces these sharp images without adding any high ISO noise.
- High-Sensitivity SR mode reduces the effect of camera shake and blurring of the subject when photographing still images in low-light conditions. The sensitivity is adjusted automatically, to as high as the ultrahigh sensitivity of ISO 6400, to match the brightness of the subjects
When the High-Sensitivity SR mode is selected, the recorded size is fixed to 5M (2592 x 1944 pixels).
- Movie SR mode prevents blurry images during movie shooting by effectively minimizing annoying camera shake through the use of exclusive software.
When the Movie SR mode is selected, the angle of view becomes narrower than normal shooting.
Auto Picture mode automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode for a given subject or scene (from Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait, Flower, Sport, Standard and Candlelight modes) by detecting the subject’s lighting and other conditions.
High-speed Face Recognition AF & AE function detects up to 32 faces in the picture frame in approx. 0.03 seconds, and automatically sets the optimal exposure. Smile Capture automatically recognizes smiles and takes the picture when a smile is detected while Blinking Detection warns you if the subject blinked at the moment the shot was taken
The large 2.5-inch LCD monitor is treated with a special AR (Anti-Reflection) coating to cut the glare of external light and minimizes reflections and has user adjustable brightness which makes it easier to view images while taking and reviewing recorded images in bright sunlight or dark conditions.
Take pictures as close as 1cm to explore detail not visible with the naked eye. Flowers show amazing detail. Use the camera to examine fine details in jewelry, stamps and coins, the texture of fabric, or any other subject with incredible detail.
Digital wide function merges two shots into one image for ultra-wide-angle expressions equivalent to a focal length of approx. 21mm in 35mm format, ideal for use by realtors on the MLS system
The SP (Super Protect) coating adds superior water repellency to the front protective glass of the lens to prevent water droplets from forming and blurring the picture
AF-assisting spot beam projector (ON/OFF switchable) to assist autofocusing operation in low light conditions
New D-Range setting improves images by adjusting both the highlight and shadow areas of the picture for optimum image quality
Frame composite function (with 90 frames stored in the camera) to shoot pictures with decorative photo frames or add the frames later.
ACDSee for PENTAX 3.0 image viewing, editing and filing software (compatible with Windows VistaTM) and ACDSee 2.0 for Mac image viewing/managing software are both included.
