I began with a D70s and moved to a D200 later. Both made me happy for a while. Then I went to the D3 and now I'm really happy. This camera has an awesome flexibility in terms of how to configure it, and how to influence the way it processes JPGs. I suppose Nikon will eventualy improve upon it but I can't even begin to imagine what's to improve. The images I get from it are awesome.
I do have one complaint however. I'm accustomed to a meter selector that I can quickly shift with my thumb This body has one that has a locking button. It's a two hand exercise to change meters which is a bit awkward when you quickly have to select a different meter.
Beyond that this camera is a real dream. I should add too that meter switch aside, it's insredibly ergonmic. It fits my hands perfectly and the controls fall nicely under the fingers. Though it is heavy you'd never know it by how comfortably it can be held and used. And kudos to Nikon for benig sensitive to those who upgrade. Most of the controls are in the same place as on my D200. I only had to learn new buttons. They know how to keep things simple for their customers.
