This camera has been a Jem since I purchased it in late May 2007. The camera performs 'excelently' under even the most harsh conditions, meaning it starts-up fast, keeps great focus (@10x) no matter what your lighting condition. We all know 'digital zoom' is pretty much useless, unless your bolted to a rock somewhere? You can however, switch to manual mode, with 'lots' of extra control! The cam corrects extremely quickly for fast 'zoom' moves, has great colour balance and shoots extremely sharp video, on Mini-DV (comparable to HD cams at 3x the price), I've seen the difference! I really like the 'shoulder' mount (perhaps personal preference) but, with all the extras mounted, you'll like it too!
It becomes a bearable unit, not a 25lb monster! I shot 3, 14hr days and felt little fatigue. Not, that you would go this 'pro' route.
The cam is an 'excelent value' for the money' and you won't be disappointed! Saves you about $3k whislt you wait for other cams to fall in price.
Mind you, I did add a 'Beach-Tek' XLR/line-In add-on (passive box for audio) and did get a 'Rode' shoot-gun mic as assc's. And even added two hi-cap batts (at low cost). It has great battery longevity (shot a 12hr day on one batt!). This cam has kept me in the 'Broadcast World' for a few more years, while I save for the big switch to HD, which is too expensive, right now.
My video's are now being shown around the world! You'll love this cam!
The ONLY drawback... it's too easy to switch it into 'manual' mode whilst pre-viewing 'shots' due to the position of the switches but, one ONLY makes that mistake once!
A fantastic cam for the price! Can't be beat, at all! You will really love this machine and anything you shoot 'IS Broadcast/DVD' quality!
You don't need to 'add anything' to this cam, to have a perfectly fine, great working, Broadcast-Cam in your own hands!
This machine works great, all by itself! You'll love it!
