IS is essential with 4 aperture.

Excellent lens from almost 38 to 168 on my Rebel Xti. If you have only one lens this is it. The aperture 4 is on border. Very sharp and fast performance. IS is performing excellent. You can do some interesting pictures hand hold.

If your going to buy 1 zoom lens to go with your Canon Camera this is the one to get! I use this with both my 1DS Mark 3 and my 20D. The lens performs great with the IS and I've hand held to a 1/15th of a second, with my Mark 3 and gotten tack sharp photos. I have to admit I have pretty steady hands to begin with, but the IS really helps. This is the lens that is on my Mark 3 most of the time.
