Wiebetech RTX220-QR 2-Bay TrayFree Drive Enclosure, RAID 0/1 FW800/FW400/eSATA/USB2

Tray-Free RAID Hard Drive Enclosure
Please Note: This is the RAID version of the Wiebetech RTX220. For the JBOD version please click here.
The Wiebetech RTX220-QR is a strong and portable 2-Bay, RAID Enclosure. It features all-metal, shock-absorbing drive bays with TrayFree™ technology.
A Note on RAID 0/1
RAID 0 is the simplest RAID level, since it involves no redundancy. Files are broken into stripes of a size dictated by the user-defined stripe size of the array, and stripes are sent to each disk in the array. Giving up redundancy allows this RAID level the best overall performance characteristics of the single RAID levels, especially for its cost.
RAID 1 is usually implemented as mirroring; a drive has its data duplicated on two different drives using either a hardware RAID controller or software (generally via the operating system). If either drive fails, the other continues to function as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced. Conceptually simple, RAID 1 is popular for those who require fault tolerance and don't need top-notch read performance.
Key Features
- SATA Compatibility - RTX series accept both SATA 1 and SATA 2 drives.

- Rear Panel Power and ON/OFF Access - The external enclosures' power and data connections are located on the rear panel, along with the power ON/OFF switch.

TrayFree™ Trayless Technology for RTX™ Enclosures
WiebeTech's TrayFree bays make installing drives a breeze. It really is as easy as opening the door, sliding the drive in, and closing the door. No screws, no trays, it just works.
Reengineered from the Ground Up
A 2-Bay RTX has never been better! As a direct replacement for the RTX200H-QR, the RTX220-QR still provides a fast way to mirror (RAID 1), stripe (RAID 0) or create a quick backup disk. In addition we've updated the RAID controller, gave it a new menu system, a handle, and included a companion utility to customize fan and alarm behavior.
Configurator Software
We listened to requests from customers in various climates, who wanted us to change the default behavior of the RTX fans and alarms. Some wanted to be notified more quickly if their drive is getting too hot, and some, who were using solid state drives in the desert, never wanted to be notified (they knew that it would be hot, and that it wouldn't matter). We've written companion software (Win/Mac compatible) that will allow you to configure at what temperatures the warning LEDs turn on, fans spin up, and/or audible alarms sound.
How to rotate through backup disks:
Remember - a mirror, while it does protect you against a hard drive failure, does not inherently offer a backup. Keeping a separate copy of your data on another hard drive (in this case a 3rd hard drive), helps protect you from data corruption and accidental file deletion. This is easily accomplished with an RTX220-QR in mirror mode. Simply unmount the volume to stop all write activity, remove one of the two drives, and then insert a third drive. You can remount your RTX immediately - and as you work, the RTX will "recover" by automatically copying your data to the inserted drive. The drive you removed can be treated as a backup that you can archive in a fire proof safe, off-site and away from the original data. Any time you choose, you can access the information on your backup disk with another enclosure, such as a 1 bay RTX or ToughTech.
RTX - Cool and Portable
The enclosure's quiet, 6cm fan keeps the drives cool in its attractive aluminum case. Like all RTX enclosures, the 220-QR has a handle for easy movement.
