The portable CJ25ex7.6B 4K UHD class leading 25x telephoto zoom lens is a part of Canon's 2/3-inch UHDxs series, combining outstanding optical performance and support for 4K UHD (and HDTV) broadcast production. 

Its compact size and light weight support the high mobility shooting often entailed in documentary and many other genres of television field production. The 25x zoom ratio supports a focal length range of 7.6-190mm (15.2-380mm with the built-in 2x extender), while maintaining 4K resolution across the entire focal range and 16:9 image plane.

Lens design strategies have extended the optical dynamic range to meet contemporary HDR imaging requirements, and support the wider colour gamut specified in the international standard ITU-R BT.2020. An advanced digital drive unit deploying 16-bit encoders is fully compatible with the zoom, focus and iris controllers used with established broadcast 2/3-inch HDTV cameras.

Three 20-pin connectors on the drive unit interface with our new ZDJ-S01 Zoom Demand and FDJ-S01 Focus Demand controllers, while providing a 16-bit interface to virtual systems. The unit empowers a variety of operational capabilities that are set up using the on-board display.

Class Leading 25x Optical Zoom Lens

The CJ25ex7.6B is the first 4K UHD broadcast lens in its class with a 25x optical zoom (190mm) on the telephoto end (380mm with the built-in 2x extender). Combined with a 7.6mm wide setting, the CJ25ex7.6B is ideal for a wide range of 4K UHD outside broadcast television productions including live sports, nature, concerts and other live events.

Advanced Optical Performance to Support 4K Cameras

The CJ25ex7.6B 4K UHD broadcast lens was built using our exclusive optical design technology, helping ensure consistent 4K resolving power and high contrast from the center of the screen to the periphery, maintaining 4K optical performance even when the 2x extender is deployed. Zoom fluctuation is controlled through the use of a multi-group movable zoom and aspheric surfaces, and the use of a floating inner focus system helps minimize focus aberrations and improve resolving power at the edges of the screen. A combination of latest materials, contemporary optical design and multi-layer coatings help produce outstanding 4K imagery, effectively allowing 4K cameras to reach their potential, and expand the possibilities for image expression. Design strategies and optical materials were utilized to help lower the monochromatic and the chromatic optical aberrations to a level consistent with the highest quality 4K portrayal on large screens.

• Minimized Chromatic Aberration

  Fluorite and UD glass have been generously utilized and optimally arranged for better correction of chromatic aberrations. This helps increase image clarity with less colour bleeding or colouring around the outlines, achieving superb colour reproduction to the edges of the images.
   

• Reduced Ghosting and Flare

  Special coatings and an internal lens barrel designed to prevent reflection, result in clean black reproduction and less ghosting and flaring- sustaining high-tonality images that support High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Colour Gamut (WCG).

Ideal for HDR Image Capture

HDR images offer excellent gradation representation and enhanced realism and dimension including texture for image representation close to the real thing. However, there can be noticeable colour bleeding and flare, so HDR shooting requires high optical performance. The CJ25ex7.6B 4K UHD broadcast lens delivers the advanced optical performance that Canon considers essential for a 4K UHD/HDR system lens, enabling shooting of more realistic images.

BT.2020 and HDR/WCG Support

The portable CJ25ex7.6B 4K UHD broadcast lens features correction data that supports BT.2020, which offers a wider colour gamut than the conventional BT.709 broadcasting standard. This enables excellent colour reproduction to the corners of the screen when attached to a 4K camera, producing images that support High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Colour Gamut (WCG). The CJ25ex7.6B also provides optimized chromatic aberration correction based on BT.2020 correction data, enabling more lifelike high-resolution images with outstanding tonality, realistic texture and depth.

Advanced Digital Drive Unit

The portable CJ25ex7.6B 4K UHD broadcast lens incorporates a digital drive unit, and the high-performance 16-bit encoder supports communication with compatible 2/3" HDTV/UHDTV cameras equipped with aberration correction functionality, without initializing the lens. Three 20-pin connectors enable high-definition lens output for virtual systems even during full-servo operation. In addition, the low power consumption and the simple display enhance operability.

• Improved Startup and Mobility

  The drive unit of the CJ25ex7.6B can output accurate lens position data from the moment the power is turned on and does not require initialization, contributing to the quick start when shooting. This is possible thanks to the drive unit's 16-bit absolute value encoder. Eliminating initialization of the encoder at power-on simplifies calibration when composing virtual and live-action images, and helps to create more accurate composites.
   

• Digital Correction for Lens Aberrations

  Aberration correction functions have increasingly been employed on 2/3" HDTV/UHDTV cameras for broadcast use. The associated data files are immediately transferred to the camera, which implements digital correction for the lens aberrations. The lens also delivers digital positional data for external virtual systems.
   

• On-Board Display

  Various digital features can be set, adjusted, and operated from the display on the drive unit.

Standardized Lens Controllers

This feature allows for compatibility with a broadcast-use HD demand. It enables the use of the zoom and focus electrical drive system accessories, such as the new ZDJ-S01 Zoom Demand and the FDJ-S01 Focus Demand, which are currently used by HD equipment.

Support for Virtual Systems

The drive unit of the CJ25ex7.6B 4K UHD broadcast lens uses three 20-pin connectors. One of these connectors outputs 16 bit high precision lens positional data, allowing for output even while the zoom and focus servo controllers are in use. This high-performance encoder helps simplify calibration when composing virtual and live-action images, thus resulting in more accurate composites.

Digital Functions

The Canon drive unit integrates a variety of operations, stored digitally, that can be manipulated using the display.

• Shuttle Shot

  By memorizing any two focal lengths, the Canon drive unit can automatically "shuttle" between two points, moving in either direction. As an example, this function is effective for shots in which an operator wants to start from a wide angle and then zoom in rapidly on to an object.
   

• Frame Preset

  An angle of view can be preset in either of two memories and the lens will zoom at the highest speed, or in a preset zoom speed, to the pre-set position with the push of a simple button. As an example, this function can be effective for situations such as interview programs, where it is necessary to switch between bust shot and wide shot.
   

• Speed Preset

  A specific zoom speed can be preset in memory making it possible to repeat the zoom speed as often as you like with the push of a simple button. Using a preset speed when zooming in and zooming out contributes to help create stable images, particularly with slow zooms.
